The Protocol Micro is a compact USB-C to 3.5mm DAC-amplifier that brings high-quality audio and powerful customization to your everyday listening. Built around a modified SPV4040 DAC with an ultra-low output impedance of less than 0.4Ω, it preserves the intended sound of your earphones while delivering clean, transparent playback for music, videos, games, and more. Small enough to fit in any pocket, Protocol Micro is the perfect audio upgrade for smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
What sets the Protocol Micro apart is its built-in 8-band Parametric EQ, allowing you to personalize your listening experience without relying on software during playback. Using the browser-based EQ.Hangout.Audio interface on PC or macOS, you can create and save EQ profiles directly to the device, so your preferred tuning goes wherever the dongle does.
It's easy to configure with the web UI, and gets plenty loud enough for me. The only downside is it doesn't support shelf filters.
It’s a brilliant product for the price. Simple and easy to use once I got the hang of it. Has only 8 PEQ settings as compared to its bigger brother the protocol which has 10 settings. But these were enough for an adequate adjustment.
I say must because the other option for decent audio quality at an affordable price is the apple dongle and this blows it out of the water in terms of features and audio quality. It even out competes Chi-Fi dongles more expensive than it. And since it's affordable and durable enough, it can take the abuse of daily driving it.
nice little dac. adds a bit of bass to iem. but not bad for the price and how small it is. the eq customizing from the website is also convenient if you want. totally worth it if you need a small usb dac for iems, especially neutral or less bass focused iems.
